PETALING JAYA, February 7, 2019 – In line with Nestlé Malaysia’s purpose of enhancing quality
of life and contributing to a healthier future, the company recently
contributed RM45,000 worth of Braille reading materials to the Malaysian
Foundation for the Blind (MFB). An equivalent to 1,000 books, these
materials will aid 500 visually impaired and blind children.
Ms. Nirmalah Thurai, Executive Director of Group Corporate Affairs,
Nestlé Malaysia said, “We are deeply committed to making a positive
difference in the lives of those in need. As a company which supports
an inclusive and diverse culture, we firmly believe that everyone should
be given equal opportunities to read and write, including members of
the blind community. Being braille literate is a critical component
in education as it opens up doors and greatly increases opportunities
for the blind and visually impaired. We hope that this contribution
will help to improve the literacy rates of the blind and visually impaired
in Malaysia.”
According to En. Silatul Rahim Dahman, Chief Executive Officer and
Co-Founder of MFB, “We would like to thank Nestlé Malaysia for their
generous contribution and staunch support for the blind community over
the years. This donation will certainly go a long way towards assisting
members of our community, especially our young children. At MFB, we
believe that education can break the cycle of discrimination and poverty,
and these books will certainly give members of our community a chance
at equality.”
